Cashiers Checks are the tool to use when paying old debt
Collection agencies are ruthless.
They are in the business to collect money for their client. They are not in the business to
help you or give you thoughtful guidance.
If a collector was legally able to convince you to sell your first born to pay off your past due
debt, believe me when I tell you that he would do it.
With this in mind, you should never agree to send a debt collector a post-dated or pre-dated
check.
If you should happen to work out an
agreement for small payments, DO
NOT agree to send the collector a
personal check as payment.
Why?
Well, by sending the collection
agency a personal check or providing
them with your credit card
information, you open yourself up
and run the risk of your account
being drained completely, up to the
amount that is legally owed to the
agencies client.
Taking them to court would not be prudent on your part as it would cost an enormous
amount of money and your case would probably fail.
Again, since you legally owed their client the money, they technically did not steal the money
from your account.
Better to deal with the collection agency with a Cashiers Check from your bank so that you
cover your tracks.
Though this practice may be unethical, it is right on the edge of walking the fine line of legal.
The creditor can make the case that you rightfully owe them the money and they have the
right to collect.
Even if you could make the case that they took the money without consent, it would be
quite difficult to get the agency to write you a check.
